Design & Analysis of Integrated Optic Filter:A Digital Signal Processing Approach

Wide free spectral range (FSR) optical filters are very much essential for modern commercial Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing(DWDM) technique.Performance of a serially coupled integrated optic triple ring resonator (TRR) which can be used as optical filter has been investigated in this article. Delay line signal processing and Mason’s rule have been used to analyze the TRR architecture. FSR enhancement has been achieved using Vernier principle. The simple architecture is capable of providing an efficacious free spectral range (FSR) of 1050 GHz. So far this is the widest reported FSR obtained from the similar class of ring resonator architectures. Two important phenomena that affect the performance of such high frequency integrated optic devices in the form of group delay and dispersion have also been discussed in this article.
